Are you devoted or attached?

A couple of weeks ago I was sitting in contemplation of two ideas, which proved to be very profound for me in my life.  So today I am sharing it with you!
Here are the two ideas…
1. Devotion
2. Attachment

 

I sat considering what each of these meant in my life and here is what I came up with:
Devotion is expansive, giving, holding space, and operating from a place of love.  Attachment is constricting, ego-based, a comfortable low vibration, and attempts to bring you down or keep you in one place. What if we all got clear on what we are devoted to and even more clear on what we are attached to in our own lives.  If you are with me this year and you are striving to upgrade every element of your life, then this process seems like it is absolutely necessary.  Without this self-awareness, it will be very easy to be blind to our own attachments and unknowingly step back into the comfort that so sneakily holds us back. 

 

I am devoted to:
  • My spiritual relationship, being obedient
  • Myself, my optimal health
  • Joal
  • My opportunity to serve 
  • My family (including close friends)
What I am attached to:
  • I first wrote everything… LOL!
  • Negative thought patterns around my body, relationship, and finances
  • Using coping/numbing to not feel, especially to not feel
  • Using being busy to feel worthy, rather than being still connecting to Source
Now the question for each of us is how can I intentionally spend more time in devotion and less time holding tightly to my attachments?   What if I loosened my grip on my attachments, even better… what if I completely let go?
Reminder: Miracles are natural, and when they are not occurring something has gone wrong.

Your thoughts are powerful.  The words you think and speak to yourself shape your life and paint your reality whether you realize it or not.

I use to fear my thoughts, believing I had no control over them. After digging in (and lots of daily practice of reframing) I learned that my thinking was creating my experiences, just like your thoughts are likely creating yours!

As I learned to take control of my thoughts, it became easier to align myself with higher thoughts and my entire life began to shift!
Ways You Can Reframe Your World
1. Observe – Keep a journal handy and start by paying close attention to the thoughts that go through your mind in any given day. Now, really try to pay attention! Catching the thoughts that you tell yourself isn’t super easy to do because the things you tell yourself and choose to believe are incredibly subconscious. Take note of everything! Your own positive self praises, the moments you’re being hard on yourself and the things you might be thinking about other people.
2. Reflect – After three days, review your journal as if you were a stranger reading about the story of someone’s life. Are the thoughts you’re reading one of a woman who truly believes in herself and is kind to others? Are you reading about a woman who is constantly wondering why these things always happen to her? Are you reading about someone who gives grace to herself and others? Is trapped by her own negative self talk?
3. Reframe – Take note of a single thought that is clearly not serving you and brainstorm ways you can see that thought in a new light. For example, you can take “Why is this happening to me?” and turn it into, “How is this happening for me?” See how that went from a place of defeat to a window of opportunity? Or perhaps you can take the thought, “I can’t handle this” and reframe it to, “I know I’m capable of working through this because I’ve conquered _____.”
4. Grant Grace – If you start to feel overwhelmed by how many thoughts you should likely reframe or are frustrated that the reframes aren’t coming naturally, do not worry! This is perfectly normal and shouldn’t be a cause for frustration. Here’s why… At the end of the day, your thoughts are trying to protect you. When life gets tough or scary, your mind wants to save you from that and the easiest way to do so is by preventing you from leaning into the discomfort. That being said, the way to “win” here isn’t by achieving zero negative thoughts in a day. The “win” is that you’re able to realize when you’re experiencing a thought that isn’t serving you to the highest potential and are able to turn into something better.

Some Extra Practice
For me, it’s easiest to generate positive thoughts throughout the day when I start by putting myself in the right headspace first thing in the morning. Here are a few powerful thoughts (mantras) that I use to align myself and my thoughts to high vibe energy:
  • I am complete.
  • Life is fun, easy and every flowing.
  • My life is infinitely abundant.
  • The world needs me and my unique gifts.
  • I am a magnet for miracles.
  • There is enough time and money for everything.
  • I always have everything I need, and it flows to me in abundance and at the perfect time.
  • I deserve the best in life.
  • I am filled with positive, radiant light and I shine wherever I go.
  • There is plenty of time and money for everything.

How to Have a Healthy Relationship with Fear

Let’s chat about FEAR. I think with all that’s happening right now, it’s a perfect topic for this week….⠀⠀

 

I used to be so wrapped up in what others thought of me, I didn’t even know who I was anymore. “Who am I to do this?”, “There are people who are better than me”, “What if I mess up and look dumb?” were thoughts that replayed in my head day after day and held me back in every way imaginable. ⠀⠀

 

They were on repeat in my head and there was no way I could stop them. But honestly, I didn’t even try. I didn’t try because I was in fear of what I might uncover. Instead, I just filled every day with more and more. I thought that the more I did and the more external validation I received, the better I would feel. I lived every day so neutral, so “everything is fine”, that I didn’t even know what it was like to experience true joy. ⠀⠀

 

Until…. I was over it.I became so sick of not achieving all that I wanted in life and knowing everything I was doing was based on one single emotion… fear. Here is the thing – I knew that fear was not going to completely disappear from my life, so I needed to stop viewing it as a bad thing to get rid of. Instead, I needed to view it as something that was perfectly fine. What was not perfectly fine, was it running my life.⠀⠀

 

I became determined to have a healthy relationship with fear and here is what I learned. You get to choose. Instead of focusing on “what is the worst that can happen” try focusing on “what is the best that can happen. Or, instead of focusing on “there’s not enough ____” (Like: There is never enough time or money) try focusing on “there is always plenty of time and money for everything.”⠀⠀

Having a healthy relationship with fear does not consist of filling your day with more to-do’s. More to-dos that you take on simply to gain some external validation that will make you feel temporarily better about yourself. (Keyword: Temporarily.)⠀⠀

I believe in you, and I know that you are capable of doing so many great things. Creating a healthy relationship with fear is going to take effort and patience with yourself, but this is something you can do!

Have you heard of the 90 Second Rule? This is something you can use in order to actually feel your feelings (instead of pushing them down) and then consciously make a choice that is from your highest self, rather than your shitty default programming you’ve been working with for years!
Let’s take overeating and/or emotional eating as an example today.  Do you ever…
  • Ever find yourself reaching for something sweet or indulgent anytime you’re going through a hard time? (Aka using food to numb yourself of unwanted emotions)
  • Are you familiar with reaching for a snack when you’re sitting on the couch as you try to find a TV show to watch?
  • Do you need more than one hand to count the times you’ve eaten out because a friend or coworker invited you to lunch or Sunday brunch?
  • Is there a certain day you routinely pop open a bag of chips or candy?
If you said YES to any of the above, it’s time to interrupt this negative pattern and enter the world of food freedom.
But let’s be honest, for starters, I have been guilty of saying YES to all of the above which at their core mean using food in unhealthy ways to – 
  • Numb your feelings
  • Entertain yourself when you’re bored
  • Fit in with others
  • Mindlessly eat out of routine rather than necessity
Again, I have been through all of these before and never stopped to listen to my body and check-in with myself. It felt like a never-ending cycle that I could not break.  Enter the 90 second rule!
Here’s how to get started. Use my 90 second rule! The 90 second rule works because when we experience a feeling or emotion, it only takes 90 seconds for us to feel it and allow it to pass. By sitting with yourself for a full 90 seconds, it stops you from reaching for food, it interrupts the pattern and it allows you to be in control of your choice. These are the steps – 
✖️Whenever you feel like you’re itching to eat something, stop and be still for 90 seconds to check in with yourself.
✖️Feel the feeling you are trying to ignore. Is it stress? Worry? Sadness? Boredom?
✖️Ask yourself what you need- do you really need food or do you need to have a conversation, go for a walk, take a shower… do something that continues to interrupt your “normal pattern.”
✖️Repeat as many times as needed.

 

At first, this will be challenging and it should be, you’re trying to break years of programming! With practice, it will get easier and you will start to see and feel the results. This Week I am Manifesting One of My Dreams!

This Week I am Manifesting One of My Dreams!


Back in 2018 I put a picture of the ocean and beach on my vision board, and I wrote in my journal:

“I wake up more days than not during each year next to the beach.”

Where?  When?  How?  I could not answer those questions, but I could feel my soul calling me to the water, to the earth, to the sun.  I am sharing this with you because often we give up on our dreams and desires because we don’t know the “exact plan” to get there. We are unable to control all the details, so we tell ourselves that it was not meant to be…

In 2020, I began to declare that Joal and I were going to move to Tulum, Mexico, and live there 6 months out of the year.  Keep this in mind- we had never been to Tulum, or do we know anyone that lives there or much about the area in general.  However, the Universe kept serving me up synchronicity after synchronicity and sign after sign about Tulum.  The next best step to get closer to this dream was to book a trip.  We booked a weeklong trip to Tulum to fully immerse ourselves in the city and the culture and to celebrate my 40th birthday.  The trip was set for January 2021….

Enter the Worldwide Pandemic that continued from 2020, and our trip was postponed.  So what do you do when your soul is saying beach but the world is saying “stay safe, stay home?”  You google search: warmest beach in the United States in January.  Google told me this, which is so true and a place that Joal and I now call home: Miami Beach, FL.

 

We returned from our trip in January 2021 to celebrate my birthday and wake up next to the beach and Joal and I was sitting on the couch at home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He says, “I think Miami is your beach!” Fuck yes it is!  He didn’t have to tell me twice!  And, just like that, my manifestation of waking up next to the beach came to life and we moved on February 22, 2021, from Colorado to Miami Beach.

But wait… there’s more!  As I write this we are currently on that trip to Tulum.  We are staying the week at Holistika Tulum and fully immersing ourselves in the culture and energy of this magical city.  Will we move here and live 6 months out of the year, I am not sure but I am sure that I am open and willing for that to be possible!

The new dream: Buy an investment property Joal and I can live in ½ of the year and rent out the other ½ of the year…. Of course, near the beach!

It’s almost hard to explain how big of a dream this was for me and what it meant to me.  I actually just received the calling on my heart to give $1,111 each month back in November.  I redid my vision board at the end of December and placed this number on the board, $1,111.  I began to look at it each day, to declare it done in written form in my journal, and to feel the excitement and inspiration in my body when I visualized giving in this way. Can I tell you how absolutely insane and exciting it feels that it is spreading so quickly!  And, not only is it spreading for me and manifesting my dreams but there is also a ripple effect for others around me.  By the end of this month (January, the first month of the year) I will have manifested this dream.  Let me share with you how it went down…

No, I didn’t just write one big fat check in the amount of $1,111, and besides that do you even own checks or write them, I sure don’t!  LOL!  At the very beginning of the month, I had been praying and meditating on guidance around a business mastermind and a couple of retreats for Joal and I.  These two experiences are considerable expenses, with of course a large value but the question was- this the right time for us and for my business?  And, then God spoke to me. First, you need to give.  You need to bless someone else with an opportunity for growth. Then, the right answer will come to you. For the last month, I had been planning on doing a post about this bracelet that was given to me by Jaime Kern Lima at Rachel Luna’s event, Confidence Activated in November. In fact, not only did she give me a bracelet, but also a signed copy of her book, and all the other women present also received the same! This is where the initial inspiration for my giving on my vision board was birthed.


So, I thought, let’s post a pic of the bracelet and give my signed copy of her book away.  I already had a copy and read it- love it, by the way, I highly recommend it!  As I was typing the post I heard: “Give bigger, give more.”  I was so moved by this I added a fully paid ticket to Rachel’s next Confidence Activated event in October of 2022.  Almost immediately Rachel sent me a voice note that said: Thank you, thank you, Carmen!  A few weeks ago, I wrote in my journal that female influencers would buy tickets and give them away, and today it came true with your post!  Talk about mic drop at this moment- not only is my dream coming to life but the ripple effect allowed for one of Rachel’s to manifest as well.

My giving this month $1,111:

  • Tithing
  • Giving cash on the street
  • Ticket to Confidence Activated
  • Donations to families in need that are going through challenges via GoFundMe

The one thing I hope you take from this story is to give yourself permission to dream your BIGGEST, WILDEST dreams… and then get to work understanding how to use your energy to manifest them!

Because they do come true.
